A word to the wise...
So, dear friends, ask yourself this:
When was the last time I cleaned my computer?
Okay, so I know you are thinking,
I keep my comp files pretty organized and desktop neat and simple. I remove all temp files and remove bogus trial software programs when needed.
And while that is all great, it isn't what I am talking about just yet. When was the last time you opened up your comp and checked for dust? When was the last time you looked at your laptop and made sure the fan was working? Let's be honest. If you can't remember the last time you did these things, you should do so right now. Nothing feels better than busting out some Q-tips and extending the life of your comp. I confess I was shocked by the amount of dust layered thoughout my PC. I can safely say that the fan was working after seeing the dust buildup and that my comp had plenty of room to suck in the dirty air. I don't know how much this small task of cleaning will mean in the overall picture, but it is nice to know my comp will run a little quieter and cooler for a while. As for my hard drive, I was able to remove about 27G of video content that I already had on dvd or that was available for rental/purchase. For example, removing season 2 of grey's when I already own it in a better format helped my memory problem. I was also able to gain another 3G by removing unused trial software, deleting pointless shortcuts, unistalling needless programs, and clearing out file duplicates.
It is time to check your computer and see how you fair. So, just follow these steps; it will be fun.:
- Dust your computer, in and out.
- Empty your recycle bin. It adds up if you are a media junkie.
- Check your add/remove programs list in your control panel.
- Organize your media. With hundreds/thousands of files for photos, music, and video, it is easy to have multiple copies when your files aren't labled well or you are going overboard on your desktop.
- Ask yourself how many shortcuts do you need on your desktop or toolbar.
- Check your security software and don't cancel every scan because it slows down what you are doing.
- Make sure you are backing up files that are important. External hard drives don't seem that expensive anymore, do they...
I hope this entry proved to help a little. Either with your comp or to serve as a pat on the back for a job already completed. Cleaning your PC of dust and clutter can prove to make computing a bit more relaxing and easy. And any help you can provide for its health, has to be good, right?
I will catch up with you guys soon. Check back. Holla!!
